As public transport operators and their technology partners focus on the return of passengers to public transport, Flowbird Transport Intelligence has been fast tracking initiatives to enhance the security, safety and confidence of travellers.

These innovations include the new ‘SafeT’ high volume contactless hydro alcoholic gel dispenser, which integrates with Flowbird self-service ticketing systems to help combat the risk of virus transfer from ticket terminals. The hand sanitisation technology is securely attached to self-service machines and is activated when a ticket is purchased – a sensor then detects hand movement and the unit automatically dispenses a defined dosage of alcoholic gel, eliminating the risk of virus transfer between the machine and users.

Owen Griffith, Managing Director at Flowbird Transport Intelligence, commented “During lockdown, we have been working alongside transport operators around the world to keep passengers and staff safe through enhanced cleaning regimes.

“In parallel, we have been running innovation workshops to explore what more we can do to support the industry during the pandemic recovery phase. Now we are leading out on a range of initiatives – including the SafeT hand sanitiser system and the installation of dividing screens – to ensure the quick deployment of measures which transport operators can take to build passenger confidence.

“These are highly visible and pragmatic solutions designed to provide people with the reassurance they need that they can travel safely. Our touchscreen technology also enables passengers to wear gloves when using our self-service terminals, and many are doing this, but integrating contactless hand gel dispensers primed by ticket printing adds another level of confidence, while at the same time ensuring that the gel is not wasted.

“Even though social distancing may be relaxed, restoring the confidence of passengers that they can travel safely is of paramount importance to the industry. In partnership with operators, we will keep working hard to develop solutions that help encourage travellers back onto public transport.”
