Paying for parking in Lichfield city centre set to become easier

Lichfield District Council has announced that new terminals in each of the council’s city car parks will make paying for parking quicker and easier, with a host of different payment options available.

People will be able to pay by cash, credit and debit cards or use smart devices such as Apple Pay and Google Pay. Work is set to start in November.

Councillor Rob Strachan, Cabinet Member of Finance and Commissioning, said: “We want to make Lichfield a city that is easy to visit and to ensure there are many parking options in the centre offering simple, flexible ways of paying.

The new parking machines are state-of-the-art and offer a variety of payment options to stop the scrabble for coins, giving a broad choice of parking options to suit everyone and chosen to make it as easy as possible to park in the city. The new machines also give us the ability to share location and local information which can be useful for visitors new to Lichfield.

Danny Hassett, Managing Director of Flowbird Smart City UK Ltd, said: Flowbird are excited to work in partnership with Lichfield District Council to replace their existing pay and display and off-street systems.

Lichfield District Council have selected the latest market leading S5 colour touch screen terminals for both on and off-street requirements, due to the configurable interactive interface enabling users to purchase parking sessions easily and receive additional local information or offers.

The new solutions will enhance the end user experience, and offers potential for additional services in the future, including management of EV charge points.

Blue badge holders can continue to park in any council owned car park free of charge when they display the badge correctly.
