Key West Modernizes Its Parking System

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT
The City of Key West is the southernmost city in the United States, bringing in approximately 5 million visitors each year to the island’s 4.2 square mile piece of paradise. After a decade of use, it was time to upgrade the City’s heavily used parking system.

In 2021, Key West upgraded its parking system with the following features:

• PAY-BY-PLATE CONFIGURATION
The City moved away from Pay & Display. Now users do not have to return to their vehicle after completing their parking transaction, and enforcement is done via wireless handheld devices.

• TOUCH SCREEN DISPLAY UPGRADE
The existing pay stations were upgraded with new front doors featuring 9” full-color touch screen displays, providing an enhanced user experience.

• EXTEND BY TEXT
Key West became Flowbird’s first client to utilize the Extend by Text feature. Parkers can start their payment at a kiosk, receive a text reminder when time is about to expire, and extend their payment right from their phone.
