The Public Transport Authority of Western Australia has appointed Flowbird Transport Intelligence as prime contractor for its SmartRider network, one of the world’s most successful multimodal transit schemes.

Flowbird Transport Intelligence has been a partner with Perth since the 1980s and most recently was responsible for creating the multimodal Tag On, Tag Off ticketing system for the Transperth network, along with the world-class bus stand management and passenger information systems at the city’s new Busport.

The new contract covers the provision of on-going services to the PTA and the expansion of technologies that underpin a transport network covering bus, rail and ferry operations.

To support this new contract, Flowbird – which has its Asia Pacific headquarters in Sydney – will be establishing an enhanced service and support base at its new dedicated office in Perth.

“Flowbird’s relationship as a technology partner for Transperth goes back many years and I am delighted that this is set to continue far into the foreseeable future,” said David Thompson, General Manager of the APAC Region for Flowbird. “We are looking forward to working alongside the PTA to support the development and application of advanced technologies that will ensure the successful expansion of SmartRider in the years ahead.”
